But there are some things things that you need to do to ensure that your first appointment is as productive as possible and sets the process off on the right foot.

Define Your Goals

Before you come to our office, it’s important for you to have as clear a sense as possible of what you hope to achieve through cosmetic dentistry. Many people easily identify the things they don’t like about their current smile, but it’s harder for them to figure out what they want to achieve.

Make sure you consider whether you’re looking for a whole new smile or just want one or two things fixed. Consider whether you want your smile to look natural and subtle, or whether you want it to really catch attention.

Assess Your Limitations

Also before you come to our office, make sure you have a good sense about your resources, both in terms of finances and in time and effort you’re prepared to put into getting your perfect smile. When it comes to finances, there are usually ways to work around problems, such as finances or phased treatment, but if you’re not really committed to getting your new smile, it will make it nearly impossible to achieve the results you’re looking for.

Collect Information

If you have had previous evaluations of your smile, including quotes on proposed dental work and previous x-rays, bring them along. This can give us more complete information about your smile and save time in helping us give you the best possible assessment of your smile.

It’s also a good idea to have at least a reasonable idea of your oral and general medical history. Most of the time we will do a more complete evaluation before starting a procedure, but it’s good to get a general sense of whether any medical issues may affect your procedure.

Be Prepared to Listen

We will begin your appointment by listening carefully to your assessments and goals, but then we will make our own independent observations and recommendations. These are based on decades of training and experience in the field of cosmetic dentistry, and are intended to help you get the best looking smile possible. Even though our recommendations may differ from what you think you need, we ask that you listen and try to understand.
