A nonsurgical facelift is a great way to rejuvenate your facial appearance. By restoring your face’s natural proportion by building your teeth back up to their youthful height. This can reduce the appearance of jowls, reduce or eliminate facial folds, and restore fullness to your lips, without surgery. Overall, you’ll get a rejuvenated lower third of your face, including a more defined chin.
But while a nonsurgical facelift can address what you’ve lost with age, it can’t address what you may have gained: fat under the chin, which can also lead to a poorly defined chin or unattractive neck, and currently has only surgical treatment alternatives.
According to new research, though, an experimental formula may soon change that. ATX-101 may soon give us an injection that can eliminate fat stored under the chin.
Preliminary Research
According to research presented at the annual meeting of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and highlighted by the society, clinical trials for the formula, which does not yet have a brand name, are going well, and it may lead to a powerful treatment alternative in the future.
Researchers on the project note that fat stored under the chin “cannot usually be significantly altered by diet or exercise.” Subjects were given injections of the material and then the extent of fat under their chin was rated by clinicians. Subjects were also compared with individuals given a placebo injection.
The results look good. About 80% of people responded to the injections, experiencing at least one grade of improvement on clinician ratings. The speed of response varied among individuals. About 52% of patients showed improvement after just two injections. By four injections, about 72% showed significant response.
Safety profile looks good so far. Some people experienced adverse events, with pain, swelling, and bruising at the injection site leading the risks. About 81% of adverse events were mild, and only about 1% of patients decided to discontinue treatment because of reactions.
Completing the Nonsurgical Facelift
Current facelift procedures can’t do anything to improve the position of your jaw and keep the jaw in a youthful position. Unfortunately, the nonsurgical facelift can’t address fat deposits under your chin.
But perhaps soon we will have the perfect complement: a nonsurgical way to remove that fat and complete restoration of a youthful profile, although there is no word about when ATX-101 will be ready for the commercial market.
