If you’re trying to shave years off your appearance, it’s likely you’ve spent some time perusing plastic surgery websites wondering which procedure will offer the best results. While plastic surgery procedures can help you look younger, it won’t help treat the underlying cause if it’s related to your teeth. At Beyond Exceptional Dentistry, we offer an amazing procedure known as a non-surgical facelift that not only shaves years off your appearance but revitalizes your smile.

How Do Your Teeth Affect Your Facial Appearance?

As you age, your teeth will start to wear down and shrink which can change the shape and proportion of your face. Eventually, your face will look less like an oval or heart and more like a square or circle – making it shorter and rounder. At this point, you might notice some other changes to your facial appearance like:

  • Thin, compressed, or wrinkled lips
  • Jowls and sagging skin at the jawline
  • Deep crease between the lower lip and chin
  • Squished skin in the lower portion of your face

The overall result of these physical changes includes more wrinkles, a sagging facial appearance, and looking much older than your biological age.

This is all a result of worn-down teeth. Tooth wear can occur as a result of clenching or grinding your teeth. It can also occur due to physical abrasion like brushing too hard or chewing on things you shouldn’t, and lastly, acidic drinks and foods. Each of these factors can wear down the tooth and affect your smile and entire facial appearance.

What is a Non-Surgical Facelift?

If you have worn down teeth and experience the physical effects listed above, a non-surgical facelift might be a good option for you. A non-surgical facelift is a dental procedure that rebuilds the tooth structure and, at the same time, improves the facial appearance. Our Savannah dentists use a special dental technology known as Tekscan to measure your bite force. This tells us how hard you bite and the amount of pressure applied to each tooth.

Once we learn all the details about your bite, we will use restorative and cosmetic dentistry solutions to rebuild your tooth structure. This can include the use of dental crowns, porcelain veneers, and even dental implants if you need to replace any teeth. Once we finish your treatment, your teeth will look longer, fit more comfortably, and your facial features will look completely transformed.

Procedure Comparison Between Plastic Surgery and Non-Surgical Facelift

With a traditional facelift with plastic surgery, the plastic surgeon must first give you general anesthesia to put you to sleep for the procedure. Once you’re under, the surgeon will make incisions on your face and then pull your entire face skin up and close the wounds with stitches or tape. The entire procedure takes two to three hours to complete and a several week healing processes. There is also lots of risk for complications during the procedure and during the healing process.

On the flip side, a non-surgical facelift with our cosmetic dentists at Beyond Exceptional Dentistry is much different. To start, you do not need general anesthesia. We can however provide you with sedation dentistry to help you feel relaxed during your procedures. Your entire treatment from start to finish will take just a few dental appointments depending on which procedures you use. For porcelain veneers and dental crowns, you can see your results after just two appointments. There is little discomfort or risks for complications in the healing process and you can expect to resume life as usual directly after your appointments.

What Plastic Surgery Won’t Fix

If worn down tooth structure is the cause of your wrinkles and hanging skin, a facelift won’t fix it. Think of your face like a tent. When you put the poles in and put the tent together, the poles hold the fabric up and pull it tight. There are no wrinkles. Once the tent loses the poles and structure, the material falls flat and has wrinkles. The same thing happens on your face, only your teeth act as the poles. If you don’t rebuild the structure that keeps the material tight, the hanging skin and wrinkles won’t go anywhere.

A facelift also won’t help your lips regain volume. You will have to have a separate plastic surgery procedure that involves fillers to address that problem.
